Hey Y’all!
Last weekend we traveled down to Athens, Georgia for the Stewart Family Reunion. My Granny’s 88th birthday was also on this day, which made it very special. She was one of ten siblings. I cannot imagine having that many children, but it makes me happy to have so many cousins and a big family. Since I have moved to Ohio, it makes it that more special to spend time with my loved ones when I can. I have been blessed to have a big family that is LOUD, fun, and always there for you.
Our reunion was held at my mama’s wedding venue – The Barn on Belmont. It is a beautiful renovated dairy barn that was built in 1937 and has been home to many weddings, showers, and parties. Aaron and I were the first wedding held there. It truly is a unique place, where shabby chic meets southern rustic flair.
A southern family reunion is not complete without food. We had six large tables full of it! I swear, I gained ten pounds, but it was worth it to try all the yummy dishes. We got to sit around, eat, and catch up with one another. My brother and another cousin brought their guitars for an impromptu jam session as well. The sun was shining and the day was perfect.
I don’t know how much longer Granny will be around, so anytime I am able to spend with her makes it special and memorable. She is the cutest thing, full of sass, and has twinkling blue eyes. At the end of the day, I reflected on the family members missing and who had passed away. I know that they are up in heaven looking down on us and probably saying, “Y’all have fun and until we meet again.”
Life is full of ups and downs, but you can always count on your family. Whether it’s a mother, father, brother, sister, aunt, uncle, or cousin, there is someone that has your back. I hope that I can instill these values in our future children and raise them with as much grace and fun as we had.
If you are in the Northeast Georgia area, check out The Barn on Belmont for your next event!
