Bring the Fall Inside

Hey y’all!

This season, bring touches of autumn inside your home by decorating with drying flowers, branches, and colorful leaves. I was inspired by my son, Cash, who went on a leaf hunt and wanted to add them to my wooden dough bowl. He did such a great job collecting leaves that had splashes of rusty reds, fiery oranges, and warm yellows. Adding these leaves gave some depth and texture to my pumpkin arrangement and I was so proud of him for finding these.

I wanted to add some colorful fall branches to our back patio and we had a great time “hunting” for our favorite colored leaves. When doing this – whether on your property or out in the woods – I recommend taking some gardening snips and shears. And always wear boots! You may want to wear gloves as well. You never know what type of debris or foliage you will get into. We did an impromptu search and I only had scissors in our side by side that did come in handy. Once you find your branches, take off any crusted and browned out leaves. Once “cleaned”, I used my branches on either side of our fireplace on the back porch.

I have also enjoyed adding drying Annabelle Hydrangeas to our mantle, baskets, and other vessels. You can spray these with a clear shellac spray to help prevent molting. Since our home is painted white, I love to use items that give a pop of color and drying flowers add warmth and contrast.

If you are in an area and can’t get outside, some of my favorite fall faux flowers and stems are: sunflowers, mums, sedum, wheat, pampas, and hydrangeas.
