Thanksgiving Tablescape + Decor

Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday because it’s a time to gather, catch up, unwind, and EAT. We are hosting again this year and I decided to go ahead and decorate for Christmas everywhere EXCEPT our kitchen and dining room. I feel like thanksgiving can get overlooked, and I wanted to do a special Thanksgiving table scape.

If you are new here, you may not know that Aaron and I didn’t have a “dining room” at our Ohio lakefront home. When we were able to build, it was very important to me to have a dining room and to have family sitting down together enjoying a meal. It’s where prayers are said, where we can talk about the good things in our day, and where we get our bellies full! To host Thanksgiving is a dream and I love making it special and memorable with decor and design.

I always start with a blank slate (clear your table off) and clean it. Then I think about the season, how I want to approach it, and begin to layer. I love using burnished brass, silver with patina, and shimmery golds. I gathered several antique silver trays and began layering them vertically on the table. Next I added candlesticks, pumpkins, and acorns. For the centerpiece I used two gold pheasants (birds are having a big year, y’all!) and placed them on a wooden column base as a riser. I didn’t want items too elevated because you want your guests to see one another.

For table settings I used a woven basket placemat, gold chargers, dinner plate, and decorative pheasant plate. I love neutral napkins (always check thrift stores for these) and I used a gold feather napkin ring (a clearance Hobby Lobby find). Layers give texture and interest to your table! It brings me joy using antique pieces mixed with new and giving them fresh life again. On our sideboard, I layered mirrors, used a cornucopia with pumpkins, an antique crock with rolling pins, a vintage turkey that I repainted and added pheasant feathers too (you could also add in silverware), and a rusted black pitcher (a great flea market find) full of ornate chair legs I had Aaron saw off. This space is one of my favorites and I love making it feel welcoming. After all, that is what the season is about! I hope y’all have a wonderful time with loved ones and a very HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!

Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
