Hey y’all! We became chicken farmers back in March of 2022. Aaron built me the prettiest little coop (the plans were found on Etsy) and we started our flock with 12 chicks. Since then, we have accumulated several different breeds and a funny Duck named Happy. I wanted to give y’all the run down on each type and what I looked for in before bringing them to our coop. First and foremost – they had to be somewhat sweet. My two boys handle them A LOT and I knew I did not want anything with a crazy temperament.
Buff Orpington – the Golden Retrievers of the chicken world. Buff yellow in color and very docile. Large beige eggs.
Barred Rock – black and white feathers. Great temperament. Large beige eggs.
Silkies – my fuzzy loves! Sweet and soft. Small eggs.
Polish Frizzle and Smooth – this hen has a crazy hair puff on the tops of her head. Small eggs.
Starlite Green Egger – hybrid cross between a Prairie Blue Bell and a brown egg layer. They will consistently lay green eggs.
