Unbroken – Movie Review

Hey Y’all!
I hope everyone has been keeping warm and toasty this winter. For us in Ohio, we have had snow and some below freezing temps. Needless to say, this southern girl is getting broken in! Last week, Aaron and I ventured out to see “Unbroken” at the movies. I didn’t know if I would like a movie like that, but after I heard the entire buzz surrounding it we decided to check it out.

Louis-Zamperini

“Unbroken” is the first film directed by Angelina Jolie. It is a true story about Louis Zamperini, an Olympic runner and World War II veteran and Prisoner of War (POW). Louis survived an airplane crash, was at sea for more than 40 days, and was then picked up by the Japanese navy and placed in a prisoner camp. I do not want to go into too great of details, but this story is AMAZING. The things that he must go through and endure is something that no human being should be subject to.

What really stood out to me, is that when Louis was being beaten or lost at sea, he talked to God. He promised that he would lead a life of servanthood if his life was spared. After returning to America from the Japanese POW camp, Louis met evangelist Billy Graham. That meeting changed his life forever. Louis became a missionary to Japan and made good on his promise to the Lord. Furthermore, Louis met all of the guards except for one who refused to meet him, and forgave them. I think this speaks volumes of his character and his heart after the Lord. How many of us have been wronged or hurt by others and can say we forgive just like that? It is one of the hardest things to do, but easiest things to say. Forgiving others, frees us from negativity and moves us closer to God. I highly recommend that everyone sees this movie. You will not be disappointed!
