Terracotta Pumpkin DIY

Hey y’all,

I remember when I was little, we had the cutest terracotta jack o lantern. My mama would have it sitting on our front steps and it was one of my favorite Halloween decorations. This DIY and the highly sought after Pottery Barn pumpkins inspired me to create my own and to share how I did it with you!

Items You Need:

Ceramic Pumpkin (you may be able to use plastic or foam, but I used a ceramic one). My pumpkins came from Kroger several years ago.

White Matte Spray Paint (with primer)

Acrylic Paint

Flour

Baking Powder

Instructions:

  1. Spray your ceramic pumpkin with a white matte paint/primer.
  2. After it dries, mix your preferred choice of acrylic paint colors – I wanted a light clay complexion. And add a tsp of baking powder (this is for texture). Paint your pumpkins. Once dry, you may want to add another coat. I did!
  3. Take a dark brown acrylic color to add definition to creases and stem.
  4. Once the pumpkin is tacky (not all the way dry), take a brush and lightly coat your pumpkin with flour. Begin from the stem and stroke downward. This gives a unique vintage look. *Because of this effect, I would not place your pumpkin directly outside in the weather. I placed ours under our covered patio, but they would be cute in a dining room, mantle, or foyer!*
